There are two huge action extravaganza’s debuting on streaming today.
The first is The Office’s official release of Threat Level Midnight:
But then there’s also 6 Underground starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by Michael Bay. That film is completely bypassing cinemas (and a marketing spend) to land directly on Netflix:
6 Underground starts streaming about 10 hours from now. The general consensus seems to be that it’s mich like Michael Bay’s other work: Big, loud, and dumb… but pretty fun.

If you like Bayhem, you’re going to love “6 Underground,” which opens with a nearly 15-minute-long car chase that pokes fun at spy flicks, the Spice Girls, and even Michelangelo’s statue of David while also unfurling non-stop action and enough civilian bloodshed to explain why no traditional studio would reasonably make it. Cut fast, short, and with a frenzy befitting the use of illegal drugs — much like a particularly good Bud Light commercial — the film is rife with narrative questions and plot holes the size of the small Middle Eastern country (aka Turgistan, what a world) Reynolds and his misfit mob are trying to liberate.
Victoria Madden (The Kettering Incident) has a new TV drama: The Gloaming. It debuts on Australian streamer Stan on Jan 1. Craig Mathieson from SMH explores the use of Tasmania as a backdrop for Aussie Noir.
Greg McLean, who directed The Gloaming alongside Michael Rymer and Sian Davies, says Tasmania was a unique place to shoot in. “It doesn’t look like Australia, he says. “The imagery we put out around the world has this red outback, but Tasmania has a different quality because of the nature of the weather system there, the different forests, and the different plants. It feels ancient and has a strange vibe to it.”

The next Live In Front of a Studio Audience special will air on the US ABC on Dec 18. The recreation of classic Good Times and All In The Family episodes will star:
Joining the cast for “Good Times” are Viola Davis and Andre Braugher as Florida Evans and James Evans, Jay Pharoah as J.J Evans, Asante Blackk as Michael Evans, Corinne Foxx as Thelma Evans, and Tiffany Haddish as Willona Woods. Jharrel Jerome is also confirmed to join in an unspecified role. In addition, Anthony Anderson and Patti LaBelle will sing the show’s theme song live.
Previously announced cast members for “All in the Family” include Woody Harrelson, Marisa Tomei, Ellie Kemper, and Ike Barinholtz, all of whom will reprise their roles from the first special earlier this year. Kevin Bacon, Jesse Eisenberg, and Justina Machado will also appear, with their roles will be announced live.
Lachlan Murdoch just spent US$150 million buying the Chartwell estate. No doubt he only spent that money because it also doubles as the home the Clampetts lived in in The Beverly Hillbillies.

Now that you have that modern classic stuck in your head for the day, know that a National Lampoon’s Vacation TV series is in development for HBO Max. The Griswalds will have the family home from vacation and settling into everyday life. Hilarity will obviously ensue.
