The two shows worth taking a look at this weekend are both low-key series returns.
Apple TV+ comedy Mythic Quest is back for a second series. It's a workplace comedy about a company that publishes an adventure-themed video game. I wasn't entirely on board from the early episodes of the show, but as it grew out its cast of characters, the show became exceptionally endearing.
There is no colder, more alienating show on television than The Girlfriend Experience. It returns for its third season after a second season misstep. An anthology show, this third installment is about a young American woman who works by day on understanding the psychology of users for a tech company in London, but by night she is out to understand the psychology of men during her second job as a sex worker. Starring in this season is Julia Goldani Telles, best known for roles in The Affair and Bunheads. I'm a huge fan of Telles and she's great here in a role that requires such specificity of coldness. Hopefully this opens the door to a long career of sophisticated and complex roles.
Girls5eva was far too broad for my tastes, but I'm sure it'll generate a lot of enthusiasm over the weekend. And I'm not sure I'm up for more superhero business right now, but Jupiter's Legacy might be worth a watch over on Netflix. It's from Mark Millar, best known to mainstream audiences as the guy responsible for antisocial superhero film Kick Ass.
