Your weekly guide to what to watch this weekend.
There’s actually a lot of really great things to watch around the place this weekend, even that doesn’t appear to be the case at first glance. We talk about it on the podcast, but an absolute gem playing in cinemas right now is the US indie Minari about a Korean family who settle in the US during the 80s and try to make a go of starting a farm. It’s a really fun, gentle watch.
If you don’t want to leave the couch (and fair enough), the second season of underrated series For All Mankind kicks off this weekend. The first season is only 10 episodes and is worth your time. It is a little rocky at first, but it’ll lock you in by the time you hit the third episode. And if you’re in the US, make sure you check out Nomadland which has just launched on Hulu. Not an easy watch, but certainly rewarding.
Regular TV-wise… it’s a rough week. BUT… something I noticed just moments ago is that the new sitcom Kenan was created by Happy Endings creator David Caspe. That’s gotta count for something…
This week on the Screen Watching podcast Dan and Simon discuss the new Justice League trailer (kinda), Disney+/Star announces 10 European originals, and comments about film curation by Martin Scorsese. There’s also an interview with the stars of the new ABC series ‘Why Are You Like This?’. And reviews of Minari, For All Mankind, and Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra.
