The highlight for me this week was unquestionably Andor which boldly seeks to answer the provocative question: What if you were to make a good Star Wars TV show? The show takes a fan service be damned approach, which is a breath of fresh air. And you know what... that's actually what the fans want too.

Reboot, the new Steve Levitan (Just Shoot Me, Modern Family) comedy is an easy-to-watch, but shallow and toothless Hollywood satire about remaking a classic early 00s sitcom. After watching the first episode, I was left with three questions that cut to the core of what bothered me about the show:

  1. After the awfulness of his performances in Friends From College and The Pentaverate, can't we as a viewing community just decide that we are happy to stick with Jordan Peele and put Keegan-Michael Key out on an icefloat?
  2. Why did it take just minutes for the show to construct a pointless scene for Judy Greer to be topless? It was kinda gross, but a greater crime: deeply unfunny.
  3. The entire backstory of the characters is established in the opening minutes of the show with a character reading aloud Google research, but at no point did this same staffer open up the Wikipedia page of the creative pitching them the TV show that revealed her secret? It would be commonly known trivia about a writer-director who has just broken big at a film festival...

Real talk: It doesn't matter what I write in this viewing guide: If you're the sort of person predisposed to watching a Star Wars show, you have already seen Andor or plan to watch it ASAP. Everyone else (and likely the Andor folk too) will be watching new Netflix film Blonde for two reasons:

  1. Who isn't fascinated by the idea of a saucy Marilyn Monroe biography film?
  2. Ana de Armas.
