The week coming out of the US Thanksgiving has kept things pretty quiet. Two movies debuting on Netflix are the shining lights in an otherwise weak week of new offerings.
The Power of The Dog is the new Jane Campion film. With Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, and Jesse Plemons in lead roles, it should draw some interest. The film is being spoken of as part of the Oscars competition, so maybe worth watching if only for that.
Another film with Oscars buzz is the animated French mountain climbing epic The Summit of The Gods. I gave a rapturous write-up about that in the daily Always Be Watching newsletter this morning. There's one sequence that hits at about the 25 minute mark that is as thrilling as any live action sequence you've seen.
Fans of Money Heist will be keen to see that show is back on Netflix with its final run of episodes.
There's also a Sex & The City wannabe called Harlem on Amazon Prime Video. It puts four African American women in the lead roles and manages to completely mimic the Starz series Run The World, which debuted six months ago. I rather liked Run The World - it's the far better version of this sort of show. In Australia it streams on Stan.
anniversary
This weekend marks the 40th anniversary of Canadian kids sketch comedy show You Can't Do That On Television debuting on Nickelodeon in the US. In the spirit of that, here's the banned episode of the show which focused on Adoption.
I believe that episodes of the show are available to stream in the US on Paramount+. There's no legitimate place for my Aussie brothers and sisters to see it, unfortunately.
