There's some TV I genuinely loved on my screen this week. Some thoughts:

  1. The Sex Lives of College Girls (now in its second season) is one of TV's most fun hang-out shows. Put aside the deliberately scandalous title and what you have is a lightweight relationship comedy about four college girls from different cultural and economic backgrounds who find themselves living in a dorm together. All four are driven by teenage sexual desire, but the show is very much about trying to understand identity and the shenanigans that present themselves along the way. It's funny, a bit sexy, and wonderfully charming. It's good TV that too many folks are sleeping on.
  2. Fleishman Is In Trouble is an 8-part mini-series that leans into one of my favourite genres of movies: the relationships of upscale New Yorkers as they talk frankly about love and sex. If you have a penchant for 70s and 80s era Woody Allen films or the endless stream of mid 90s relationship indie films set in New York, Fleishman is a wonderful return to what feels like a lost type of movie.
  3. Leopard Skin is an under-the-radar gem. I've only seen the first 3 episodes, but it is a limited 8-part drama which moves along at a cracking pace. With fractured timelines and a heist gone-wrong, the show is about three cons who have been lured to a remote Mexican paradise for a jewel heist. On the run from what might be local police, the trio take over a mansion occupied by two women with a pretty unique bond that ties them together. It has guns, nudity, laugh-out-loud jokes, and a tropical heat you can feel on the screen. It's a lot of fun.
