Always Be Watching TV Guide 7 - 9 Feb 2020
What are you planning to watch this weekend?
There’s quite a few shows that are worth sampling this week, but maybe don’t expect to find love.
Your best bet is the new Netflix horror series Locke and Key based on the comic book series of the same name. It was created by Joe Hill - son of Stephen King. The comic has very loyal fans and I’d expect the series to generate a similar cult interest.
Fans of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia might want to take a shot on Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. Apparently it takes a couple of episodes to settle in to what works for the show, but with every episode streaming from day one on Apple TV+, it might be worth settling in for a binge.
CBS All Access has an experimental drama Interrogation. It’s a police procedural that is kind of like a Choose Your Own Adventure that encourages you to watch the show in any order. Reviews have been middling.
High Maintenance returns for a fourth season. If you haven’t watched the earlier seasons, certainly go back and give it a look. It’s an anthology series about the lives of a very diverse range of New Yorkers. The only thing that connects them all is interacting with a weed dealer. The show comfortably moves between being funny and touching with regularity. It’s pretty great.
If you’re in Australia, can I also point out that CBS drama Evil is now streaming on Ten All Access. I don’t have a login, so I can’t see how many episodes there are streaming. But it’s quickly become one of my favourite shows of the past year. It’s a quirky procedural comedy-drama from the creators of The Good Wife. Tonally, it’s kind of similar to that show with The X-Files/Millennium mixed in for good measure.
Inside No 9 (s5), Brooklyn Nine Nine (s7), The Sinner (s3), High Maintenance (s4), MacGyver (s4)
