Get Shorty has been renewed for a third season.

RIP Detroiters. One of TV’s funniest shows has been cancelled after 2 seasons by Comedy Central. This is what happens when you allow your TV channel to atrophy and don’t keep up with viewer behaviours.

There has never been a better time to be in comedy. Podcasts hosted by comedians are huge. Stand-up comedy has never felt more integrated into mainstream pop culture. It shouldn’t be difficult to tap into that - especially for legacy comedy home Comedy Central. And yet, where are its buzzy shows? The Daily Show has completely fallen out of the zeitgeist, Comedy Central hasn’t been able to launch a companion late night show, and it seems to have made no effort to really connect with the massive influx of well-known stand-ups looking for a TV deal.

I’d never before considered the obvious parallels between Bewitched and Mad Men, but now that I’ve been made aware of them, I can’t not see them. This is all thanks to this very good article on the Shondaland site that explores eight seasons of Samantha’s fashion on the show.

There's a wall in my bathroom dedicated to framed ads torn from vintage issues of Time, Life, and Good Housekeeping. They're the kind of ads we don't see anymore; often rendered in original hand drawn art, portraying glamourous women puffing away on Lucky Strikes, while they extol the virtues of the brand new, fabulously modern vacuum cleaner their husbands purchased for them. It's a mishmash of ads and frames, as varied as the products they’re trying to sell — all centered around three detailed blueprints: the 37th floor offices of “Mad Men”’s fictional ad agency, Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, and the two floors of “Bewitched”’s Samantha and Darrin Stephens' suburban home at 1164 Morning Glory Circle.

It’s season 3 of True Detective! January 13 is the date you want to mark in your calendar apps.

Netflix has announced a series on the life of singer Selena.

Selena was an American singer, songwriter, model, actress, and fashion designer who became one of the most beloved Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century before her tragic death in 1995 when she was shot and killed by her best friend and fan club manager, Yolanda Saldivar.

The story will focus on her Mexican-American family and how the entertainer ‘transcended categories and borders to become a global star’. Moises Zamora (“Star,” “American Crime”) pens the series which Zamora is executive producing.

Sundar Pichai today appeared before a US judiciary committee today where he dodged questions on YouTube and the volume of conspiracy material currently streaming.

Pichai didn’t endorse that position exactly, but he didn’t give much reason to expect improvement either. “This is an area we acknowledge there’s more work to be done,” the Google CEO told Raskin. “We have to look at it on a video-by-video basis, and we have clearly stated policies, so we’d have to look at whether a specific video violates those policies.”

That’s it for today!
