It is a heavy viewing weekend with multiple shows worth your attention.

  • I haven’t yet gotten to watch Mrs Davis, but it is at the top of my queue. It has Betty Gilpin from GLOW starring in a new drama co-created by Damon Lindelof and is a AI vs nun techno thriller. Come on - with a description like that how can you not at least sample the first episode?

  • I had a really great time with Apple TV’s new drama Drops of God. It’s a french drama based on a Japanese manga series about a wine tasting competition. The show is gorgeous to look at and Fleur Geffrier is a stunning lead. The show is a little too heavy on exposition, but so often one can forgive that with a subtitled foreign drama.

  • Rachel Weisz stars in the rather good Prime Video series Dead Ringers. It is a remake of the David Cronenberg film from the 80s about twin gynaecologists. Nothing these twins do is ethically sound and you’ll struggle not to want to press play at the end of episode one. Honestly, I hadn’t expected to enjoy this one very much, but the show is just so exceptionally seductive.

  • Fans of The West Wing will want to check out Netflix’s 6-part drama The Diplomat starring Keri Russell. As a drama, it isn’t quite at the level of The Americans, but it has enough to offer to keep your attention.
