Dust up on a full weekend of TV viewing
It’s interesting to me that the tech boffins at Warner Bros Discovery haven’t put a redirect on the www.hbomax.com URL for international users. If you try visiting that site in Australia, it just tells you that it hasn’t launched in the territory yet. Surely there’s a bunch of people who are checking out the site this week after all the jokes/memes and trying the new (re)brand instead of the current one.
But, I am distracted. Lets get onto the business of the weekly Always Be Watching streaming guide (which is a member benefit for paid supporters of the newsletter).
There’s actually quite a bit going on today with a slew of new shows. Strangely, I haven’t come across any original movies debuting this week. That doesn’t seem right to me, so I apologise for whatever it is that I’ve missed.
I’ve seen a lot of people mentioning how keen they are on Murderbot, a new sci-fi comedy show on Apple TV+ today, based on a book by Martha Wells. While the book is beloved, the TV series has had some pretty middling reviews. Fans of the book might want to check out this pan from Wired.
The JJ Abrams 1970s pastiche Duster is pretty entertaining. I’ve seen the first one. The handful of reviews I’ve read suggest it starts to lose its way about five episodes in.
Frankly, I’m very happy to watch anything Josh Holloway is starring in. That guy is all charm.
But what has actually captured my attention this week…
