Larry is back and Netflix impresses with One Day
Your weekly guide to the new and returning shows on streaming from the past week.
It’s not a quiet week for TV, but it’s not exactly a week for heavy hitters as far as new TV is concerned.
The big TV events of this week were the season returns of Curb Your Enthusiasm (for its final season) and Abbott Elementary. On the fringes, there is also the latest season of Death in Paradise and Tokyo Vice. And then getting real fringe, Halo is back for another season (does anyone really think we’ll see a third season of this expensive dud?).
As far as new TV goes, the only show really worth talking about is One Day. It’s an adaptation of the 2009 David Nicholls book, which was previously adapted into a film in 2011 starring Anne Hathaway. Unlike the movie, critics seem to really like the Netflix series adaptation. So, if you’re looking for a charming character drama about young people that spans the course of their first decade or so as adults, this should tick some boxes for you.
Next week TV starts to get really hectic with the return of so many strike-impacted shows with new seasons. Pace yourselves.
