It’s not a stellar week for new shows and movies, but there are a couple of new shows that may catch your attention.

The biggest is an Aussie miniseries on Prime Video The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. Based on the 2018 book by Holly Ringland, the show stars US-import Sigourney Weaver and is about an orphaned girl with a violent upbringing who goes to live on her grandmother’s farm. The first three (of seven) episodes debut on Prime Video today, with episodes going out weekly after that.

Based on title alone, I reckon the late evening choice of a lot of viewers will be new Netflix series Fatal Seduction. It’s a South African remake of Mexican Netflix series Dark Desire, about a woman who goes away for a weekend to have an affair (which ends in murder!!!). This is the second half of the first season, which debuted last month on the streamer. I probably shouldn’t be listing this as a ‘new’ show, but it is new-ish.

Beyond these two shows, the must-watch programs are all returning series. queer YA drama Heartstopper is back for a second season, Reservation Dogs returned for its third and final season, The Lincoln Lawyer returns for the second half of its second season, and kids show Young Jedi Warriors is back with the second chunk of episodes for its first season. Some huge titles there.

The quiet must-watch show amid all of this is the second season of AMC+ drama Dark Winds. It’s a really good 70s-era noir detective show focused around a Navajo reservation. This is one of those shows that critics unanimously love, but a lot of viewers just don’t know it exists. If you’re willing to throw a few bucks down for AMC+, please give it a look.
