Straight up if you want to know what you should check out this weekend, it is the new Prime Video heist drama Steal. It’s Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones as a woman working on the trade desk for an investment country that manages pension funds. What happens when a group of armed thieves turn up to take everyone hostage, demanding they transfer four billion pounds into their accounts? But what happens after that when it is quite clear that there was an inside man who helped them get their money?
This show is very watchable and will make for a great binge.
You might also want to check out season 2 of Apple TV’s Japanese wine drama Drops of Gold. And there’s Tracy Morgan back, teamed up again with 30 Rock co-creator Robert Carlock for new NBC sitcom The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins.
But what is the really interesting production to debut this weekend?
Please, keep in mind that this is in no way a recommendation…
Right wing opinion news site The Daily Wire launched its own subscription streaming service called DailyWire+ back in 2022. So far it has acquired movie and documentary titles, while also producing some kids shows. Among those kids shows was the embarrassing animated Bluey rip-off Chip Chilla.
This week DailyWire+ has launched its first scripted original drama. It is called The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of The Merlin. It’s a super Christian Arthurian drama that is based on a series of fantasy books.
I’ll say this about the trailer: It looks like it is better than a fanfic movie. But, gosh, at only 2 minutes and 43 second, you can feel every second of this trailer.
The show was created by Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing, who also directed multiple episodes of the show. Here’s what he had to say about the show to The Hollywood Reporter:
The Pendragon Cycle is “the culmination of a 10-year vision to create culture, not just to criticize it. Lawhead’s novels present a visceral, masculine Christianity in a world of conflict and mystery. It isn’t saccharine or clean. In short, it is very much like our world. I’m so happy to share our adaptation, and the work of our remarkable cast and crew, with the Daily Wire audience.”
Maybe just watch the new Game of Thrones show, A Knight of the Seven kingdoms.
