The Tick may be mighty, but he has also just been cancelled by Amazon. After two glorious seasons, it is time to put this incarnation of The Tick to bed. Creator Ben Edlund plans to shop the series around for a new home. And let’s not rule that out as something that can happen - The Tick has had far more life on television than anyone would have expected.
I just wish the 1990s animated series was available in full to stream somewhere.
Nintendo has released detail on Mario Maker 2, which will launch in June. The game allows Nintendo fans to build their own Mario levels. It’s good wholesome fun and you can maybe say goodbye to me from June to August.

And speaking of Nintendo…
Apparently the Nintendo Switch has sold more units than the PS4 in Japan. Remarkable considering the PS4 launched three years ahead. That’s 8,125,637 vs 8,077,756 units.
All of the CW’s DC superhero shows have been building towards a TV adaptation of the classic DC comics event from 1985 Crisis on Infinite Earths. It will culminate in a 5-hour TV crossover that will air across The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Arrow. There are two things to consider here:
- Crisis of Infinite Earths is remembered for two hugely significant deaths - that of Supergirl and The Flash/Barry Allen. With both starring in TV shows, expect to see them live through this.
- This will be the last season of Arrow. So, maybe Oliver Queen is not long for this world?

And speaking of the DC superhero shows, the first trailer for the new Batwoman series:
Oh, and there’s a trailer for the new Nancy Drew too:
Will the headquarters for SBS be moved to Western Sydney if Labor win the upcoming Australian election? Well, there’ll at least be a feasibility study. It’ll be a costly move, but one that should probably be made on one condition:
It’s a TV/radio station. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter where it is located as long as the content meets the needs of the stations remit. But, if they are going to build a new headquarters for a public broadcaster, it should only be done if there are some innovative ways to actually make the building open in some way to the community.
Speaking from my perspective as a former SBS staffer, one of the interesting things at SBS was seeing the atrium in the building opened to different community groups. If there’s a way to make that space more open in a new building, that would actually be a far more interesting prospect than simply moving HQ.
And speaking of Labor…
Former Australian Prime Minister and Labor leader Bob Hawke died yesterday at the age of 89. Hawke was not only a great Prime Minister, but was… is… an Australian icon. TV Tonight has an article up today showcasing some of his many TV appearances over the years. But this one, with the PM appearing as himself on an episode of 80’s light-drama A Country Practice is probably my favourite:
The new Star Trek TV show about Captain Picard has a name now and a logo. It will SHOCK you with what they called it….
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert films in the famed Ed Sullivan Theatre. This is the location of one of TV’s most famous musical performances. With the appearance yesterday of popular boy group BTS, the show took a moment to look back at the appearance of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show.
