Throughout Friday night You’ll find Twitter and Facebook increasingly filled with your friends/family talking about the new Netflix movie Wine Country. It’s Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and friends as late-40-somethings drinking wine and hanging out for two hours. And frankly, sometimes that’s all you need.
But by Sunday lunchtime, I am pretty sure I’m going to be tired of hearing about it.
Wine Country springs to life here and there, but there’s something dispiriting about the way these women seem to be working hard for laughs rather than just being funny.
For youth trash-fun, the Lord of The Flies-inspired The Society is worth a look. Starring in that is Pamela Adlon’s daughter Gideon Adlon. You might remember her as being one of the best things about the film Blockers.
Catherine of Aragon is the Princess of Spain, who has been promised the English throne all her life. She arrives in a rain-lashed England with her glorious and diverse court including her ladies-in-waiting Lina and Rosa. When her husband dies suddenly, the throne seems lost to Catherine until she sets her sights on the new heir, the future King Henry VIII.
